FIRST DAY
First Day is an interactive narrative game about a first-year university student. The first day they leave their home, the first day of living in a new home, the first day of university, the first day for a new chapter.

The game features positive interventions which can be used to help reduce anxiety and improve positive thinking towards ones' self and others.
​
The game's psychological content was heavily supported by a Positive Psychology Coach and Trainer - Dr Paula Loveday.

CLIENT IDEATION

"A game that gives people something positive to do instead of worrying."

"A game that appeals to people aged 18-30 AND parents of people aged 18-30."

During the client's PhD, she developed a positive intervention called Best Possible Other (BPO). In the BPO you imagine a loved one's future working out in the best possible way and then write about it. So far it's only been handwritten and therefore paper-based or typed into a document. The client wanted the intervention in a digital format and to get people to use it.
PROCESS
A game tender bid was proposed by the development team and sent to reply to the client's tender request. The bid included the premise of the gameplay and how the ideation could be implemented.

PRODUCTION
The research's primary source was from our client Dr. Paula Loveday and other peer-reviewed articles that were relevant to the intervention.
Casey's narrative was enhanced and developed in Twine.
The gameplay was developed and combined in Construct 2.
The art was created in both adobe photoshop and ibisPaint X.

As a team, we achieve to do excellently and maintain a good relationship with the client and with each other. We want to develop the game as excellent as we possibly can. This way we all work together to accomplish the desired goals the client has set for the development of the game.

Our team values consist of mutual respect, constructive communication, and honesty. Respecting each other through aiming to understand before being understood, positively expressing constructive feedback and communicating straightforwardly without passive aggression or unresolved or unexplained thoughts, comments, questions etc. All to be done with humility, diligence, understanding and meekness.
Goals
Our goals as a team are to learn, enjoy, work cooperatively, work hard and deliver a game that meets the client’s requirements. Success will be measured through milestones recorded throughout the game development.
